“Everything that I’ve ever done I can still relate to, and feel connected to it in a way. There’s no part of my life that I look at and go, ‘I don’t recognize that person at all.’”
― Ian Mckaye
“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don’t we consider it his duty to escape?. . .If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we’re partisans of liberty, then it’s our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
― J.R.R. Tolkien
“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.”
― Dr. Seuss
“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
“The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.”
― Isaac Asimov
“There are no passengers on spaceship earth. We are all crew.”
― Marshall Mcluhan
“There are three things we cry for in life: things that are lost, things that are found, and things that are magnificent.”
― Douglas Coupland
“I think we are well advised to keep on nodding terms with the people we used to be, whether we find them attractive company or not. Otherwise they turn up unannounced and surprise us, come hammering on the mind’s door at 4 A.M. of a bad night and demand to know who deserted them, who betrayed them, who is going to make amends.”
― Joan Didion
“We’re all just walking each other home.”
― Ram Dass
“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
― J.K. Rowling
Kodu is visual programming language that is very simple and made specially to create games. It is Microsoft Research project to encourage kids and teenager to create and enjoy technologies. Programs consist of pages and these pages are divided into different rules. The rules are further divided into conditions and actions. The Kodu language is designed specifically for game development That’s why it provides specialized primitives derived from gaming scenarios. Programs are expressed in physical terms like vision, hearing, and time to control character behavior. Kodu can also express advanced game design concepts in a simple, direct, and intuitive manner.
That’s cool we can now play Pac-man inside google map. Just visit Google map and click on the Pac-Man icon on the bottom left on the screen. Google will change the map into a level based on the center of the map and then it uses the roads to render a level. We can then control our yellow hero with the keyboard and relive the Pac-man frustration as ghosts chase us around our local streets.
Introduction to ScratchJr
ScratchJr is an iPad app that a gives young children (aged between 5 to 7) an introduction to programming. Kids can develop games with few easy steps. Using graphical programming blocks, children can make characters move, jump, dance and sing. In the process, children learn to solve problems, design projects and express themselves creatively using the iPad. ScratchJr can be downloaded for free on the Apple App Store.
ScratchJr is a collaboration between the DevTech Research Group at Tufts University, the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab, and the Playful Invention Company.
To start creating a new project just select a character and start dragging and dropping blocks from the block palette. All commands start with the Green flag and end with the End blocks. What comes in-between is up to kids. Kids can make their character move, talk, appear and disappear simply by adding the corresponding command to the script. Kids can change their stories background. There is a lot of pre-set scenes available and these can be accessed by clicking on the ‘Change Background’ button.
